We are facing an unprecedented global emergency. Life on Earth is in crisis: scientists agree we have entered a period of abrupt climate breakdown, and we are in the midst of a mass extinction of our own making. We are unprepared for the danger our future holds. We face floods, wildfires, extreme weather, crop failure, mass displacement and the breakdown of society. The time for denial is over. It is time to act.

About

Here at Extinction Rebellion North we aim to connect and build resilient communities by working and supporting one another across the region to allow us to grow in strength and solidarity to achieve system change. 

We aim to create a world that is fit for generations to come. There are many paths you can take to help us ensure this change takes place. You could find yourself on the front-line of an action, making banners, answering emails, or creating spaces for communities to make decisions together . Whatever your strengths or passions are, please join us in the fight for life.

We have three demands in the UK:

Tell the truth

All institutions must communicate the danger we are in. We must be clear about the extreme cascading risks humanity now faces, the injustice this represents, and the urgency of the problem.

Act now

Every part of society must act now to end harmful emissions immediately so as to prevent further climate breakdown.

3
Decide together

We demand a culture of participation, fairness and transparency. Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice.

We will not be led quietly to annihilation by the elites and politicians. We will act honorably, resiliently, and peacefully, in the spirit of all those who fought for our freedoms before us. We call on everyone, regardless of your political beliefs to join us in fighting for the survival of our nations and for the survival of life on earth.

We frequently work with coalitions on joint campaigns, take part in creative protests, and include civil disobedience risking arrest as one of our tactics1 but we always act peacefully. Many of our actions are family friendly events and we encourage everyone to get involved in some way where they can.

  1. Some people are prepared to be arrested and to go to prison, but we acknowledge that not everyone in Extinction Rebellion North is in a position to make the sacrifice of arrest. We have many Northern Rebel’s who are unable to be arrested, and Extinction Rebellion North relies on contributions in many forms. When we put our bodies on the line we do this with the support and guidance of our whole movement. ↩︎
